Porsche 962

The Porsche 962 is a proper race car. Built to compete at International Motor Sport Association (IMSA)’s Group Touring Prototypes (GTP) and designed to replace the 956. It also ran other races such as the World Sportscar Championship and the 24 hours of Le Mans. Porsche produced 91 examples of this beast from 1984 to 1991, most of which were sold to racing teams, with about 16 used by Porsche under its banner.

Greddy Porsche 962

The Hot Wheels version stays true to the car’s form. It has a sleek silhouette and is wrapped in rather plain clothing. That isn’t to say that it is boring. It may come in a plain white paint job, but it also comes draped in Greddy livery. The only other decal that the car comes with is the number 99 on either side. There are no headlights nor taillights to speak of here. The rest of the body comes in white. It is nice to see the panels on the car, though. And while white does not show the panel lines that well, you will see it carved onto the body work of this 1:64 scale wonder. Also, the dish wheels (RRAs), painted in gold, lend itself quite well to the overall appeal of this car. Race Day is also where this car, designed by Hot Wheels designer Mark Jones, debuted.

Porsche 962

These prototype cars have their appeal. I know them because of their presence in higher end motorsports such as the 24 ours of Le Mans. And while I like them for what they are, they are not really my cup of tea. A keeper, though, for the Porsche collection.
